I woke up at 5am and started cycling approximately an hour later at 5.50 am. On the road To Salmon Gums I saw NOTHING! I think I crossed the railway once and that’s it. Due to extreme heat there was a big fire in this area three weeks ago. Before the fire there was nothing and now it even looks worse! Everything burned to the ground, some people died as well, I saw a few graves. Things like that make you feel very small. I was cycling at a really good tempo, considering the weight of the food and water that I have to carry for such long distances. Reached a “town” with a population of probably anywhere between 7 and 9 people. The guy who owns a hotel here, went to the next town named Esperance, which is over 100 kilometers away to buy some supplies. He does it every Monday. When I arrived wandered around the place for 3 hours. I walked all of the town’s streets, that’s three. I gotta say this sucks, because you wake up so early to have time to rest after long rides, next thing you know you are wasting time in the middle of nowhere. Finally I got the room, it started to get really hot as well, over 30 degrees. Tomorrow will have to start in the middle of the night and reach Esperance before noon. I really need to get the WiFi, I have over 350 kilometers of data on my GPS device waiting either to get lost or to get uploaded. When I reach the coast, the heat shouldn’t be such a problem but the hills are expected to be big, I don’t want to mention the headwind blowing constantly. Everything OK, good day!
